Yes. In two ways - using Email Filters or Spam Assassin.
Our control panel has a tool called Spam Assassin, that will examine all incoming mail to your domain, and 'tag' what it thinks is spam (based on several complex 'rule' filters). Once the mail is sorted and tagged, one of three things can happen:
- If you do NOT enable a "spam box" mailbox, all mail will arrive as usual (including the spam). The internal Headers will contain information if the mail is thought to be spam, and part of the spam emails will arrive with the majority of the mail body as an attachment (to prevent virus infection.) If you can find a personal email filter that can read headers for Spam Assassin reports, it can filter the mail at your end for you. (Note: we do not supply such filters.) This is probably the least desireable way to operate Spam Assassin.
- If you DO enable the Spam Box, all mail with spam tagged headers will be sent to that mail box on your server. At that point, you can set up a secondary email accoun to download and check this mail if you desire (to make sure no REAL mail got tagged). You MUST download this mail, or eventually your mail server will fill with spam mail, and no more email will arrive! See the Control Panel Help files for details if you wish to operate mail this way. This is also a less desireable way to operate Spam Assassin.
- Enable the Spam Box, and Create an Email Filter to 'discard' the mail tagged as "Spam Assassin: yes" in the headers. This is explained right within the Mail Filter controls, and is the most desireable way to manage the spam - just delete it! Unless you change the settings for Spam Assassin, it will be extremely rare that REAL email gets tagged as spam, so it is usually quite safe to just delete it all.
Please note that you can only block mail that is sent to your domain name account! (Example: email@example.com) You cannot block mail that is sent to another address, such as your dial-up account.
If there is a particular address you wish to block that is NOT spam, that can be done by setting up an email filter for it.
REMEMBER - IF YOU DECIDE TO USE SPAM ASSASSIN, YOU MUST EITHER DISCARD THE SPAM, OR DOWNLOAD IT SOMEHOW IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE MAIL SERVER FROM FILLING UP!
